About Us

Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) (University for Women) was founded in the year 1983 by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, with the fervent desire to train women students as better builders of the Nation and to inculcate skills, knowledge and leadership in all aspects of life. The University functions in line with its motto: “Jananam Nirmochanam Streenam”, which means emancipation of Women through acquisition of Knowledge.The University was established under the Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam Act of 1983, which has come into force on the 14 of April 1983. The University started with ten faculties and 300 students and twenty staff members, currently has a student population nearly 5800 plus and an academic staff of 105 (regular) and 131 faculty on contract.The University covers the jurisdiction of entire Andhra Pradesh, total of 26 districts spanning from Srikakulam to Chittoor. It admits students from all regions of Andhra Pradesh, with diverse social, economic and ethnic backgrounds.

The campus of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam is spread out in a lush green area of 138.43 acres (56 hectares) in a semi-urban area at the foot of the sacred Tirumala Hills, Tirupati. The campus has the necessary infrastructure and buildings to run its academic programmes and administrative machinery. There are separate academic buildings for Humanities and Sciences, University Administration, Central Library, University Auditorium, Sericulture Complex and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and also an independent building for Computer Science, Business Management and Engineering College.

The Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem are well nurtured. The SPMVV has established three Incubation centres in the campus viz., the Technology Business Incubator from DST, Women Biotech Incubator (The Bionest from DBT) and the Livelihood Incubator (MSME) towards incubating the culture of Innovation and entrepreneurship among the students. Further, many Student centric activities run in the campus like A. P. Skill development centre, Dassault labs ( German collaboration), centralized DST-CURIE labs and DST-CURIE- AI (Artificial Intelligence) labs and students clubs are active in involving the students in various skilling and technological aspects.

As Constituent department of University, the department of law was established in the year 1988. The department has been offering 3 years and 5 years L.L.B, L.L.M (P.G) programme and Ph.D. programmes. The department is acclaimed as the leader in the field of legal education to women in the state for over 30 years. Legal education offered by the department is designed to give Professional Orientation besides promoting skills of advocacy and legal drafting. The students in the department are trained in such a way, where they are considered as an ideal professional, whom the society looks up to.

It is a great pride and honour to place on record that the alumni and the students of SPMVV are always much chosen and most preferred in their selected professions in the society. The SPMVV alumni are highly placed in the respective professions of the society accomplishing the very Vision and Mission of this University.
