The university was inaugurated on 11th September, 1976 by the then President of India, Sri Fakruddin Ali Ahmed and celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2001. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded ‘A’ grade to Acharya Nagarjuna University. It has been constantly striving towards achieving progress and expansion during its existence for over four decades, by of introducing new courses Research Centres and incubation center in the Campus Colleges, affiliated colleges and professional colleges of Acharya Nagarjuna University. Spread over 300 acres of land on the National HighWay (NH-16) between Vijayawada and Guntur of Andhra Pradesh, which is close by the state capital of Andhra Pradesh, the University is one of the front ranking and fastest expanding Universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh. With campus student strength of over 5000, the University offers instruction for higher learning 85 UG & PG programs and guidance for the award of M.Phil and Ph.D in 48 disciplines spread over six campus colleges.

The University is currently offering 70 Postgraduate courses, besides Postgraduate courses in affiliated colleges. Administration of the existing courses of the campus college is redistributed into six constituent colleges: i) University College of Arts, Commerce & Law, ii) University College of Sciences, iii) University College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, iv) Dr.YSR College of Engineering & Technology v) University College of Architecture & Planning vi) University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences from the academic year 2010-11.

The crest and the motto adopted by the Acharya Nagarjuna University represent the creative essence of Indian culture oriented to contemporary aspirations. The motto, ‘Satye Sarvam Pratishtitam’ is an epigrammatic representation of the entire symbolism of the crest.

The University has started New Courses i.e., M.Sc. Computational Data Science; M.Sc. Forestry; M.Sc. Solid Waste Management & Pollution Control; M.A. Applied Linguistics & Translation Studies; Master of Performing Arts; M.A. Music; MA. Dance; M.Tech. Irrigation & Water Resources Engineering; BA Music; BA Dance; B.Plan; B. Design; Integrated MA Public Policy (5) Year; MBA Media Management; MBA Technology Management, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate Courses in Self Support mode in Acharya Nagarjuna University from the academic year 2023-24.

The University has also started Dr. BR Ambedkar School of Legal Education and Research, for imparting a five year BA LLB (Hons.) course and five year BBA LLB (Hons.) from the academic year 2023-24. The following LLM courses i.e., LLMConstitutional & Administrative Law, LLM- Corporate & Security Law, LLM- Law of Crimes & LLM- Labour & Industrial Law are also available in Acharya Nagarjuna University.

The University has been constantly striving towards achieving progress and expansion during all these years, in terms of introducing new courses in the University College, the affiliated colleges and professional colleges. This University has also pioneered the introduction of self-financing courses in conformity with the National Educational Policy 2020 and the guidelines of the University Grants Commission. The resources mobilized through these courses have been utilized for strengthening the existing faculties and starting of new disciplines in the selffinancing mode.

From November 2019 till date Acharya Nagarjuna University has achieved 108 International Ranks, 39 National Ranks, 03 Certifications, 02 Records, 05 Awards, 02 Green University Awards and 01 State Energy Conservation Award a total 157 in different categories from well reputed World Ranking Organizations like Quacqarelli Symonds (QS), QS I-GAUGE, Times Higher Education (THE), Scimago, UI Green Metrics, National Institutional Ranking FramWork (NIRF), MHRD – Swatchta Rankings, University Guru, SECA, INDIA TODAY, Green Mentors etc. Research, Consultancy and Innovations are the pillars for overall holistic education that ANU promotes.
