UNIVERSTIY AT A GLANCE

Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu was established by an enactment of A.P. State Legislature under the Sri Krishnadevaraya University Act No. 36/1981 upgrading erstwhile S.V.U Autonomous Post – Graduate Centre into a full-fledged university. The university is named after a great ruler of Vijayanagara Empire, King Sri Krishnadevaraya of the 16th century. At present the university is under the common A.P. Universities Act No.4/1991 in force. Subsequently, the University became a full – fledged affiliating University in the year 1988. The territorial jurisdiction of Sri Krishnadevaraya University comprises Ananthapuramu district with its headquarters at Ananthapuramu. The University has an academic history of 43 years. The University has an extensive campus spread over 500 acres of land in rural surrounds, 11 Kms away from Ananthapuramu city of Andhra Pradesh. The University envisages its growth in terms of promoting equity and access, relevance, quality and accountability to redeem the irredeemable draught-prone and backwardness of the region through massive education.

Sri Krishnadevaraya University has five Constituent Colleges located within the campus: (i) College of Arts (ii) College of Sciences (iii) College of Engineering and Technology (iv) College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and (v) College of Education. It offers an eclectic mix of graduate and postgraduate programmes in the faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Commerce, Management, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering and Pharmaceutical Sciences, apart from Research programmes MPhil leading to Ph.D. Degrees. The University College of Arts has 13 departments offering 18 postgraduate programmes, while the University College of Sciences has 16 departments offering 19 P.G programmes. The University College of Engineering and Technology offers B.Tech. programme in five branches and M.Tech. programme in three branches. The University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers B. Pharmacy and M. Pharmacy programmes while the University College of Education offers B.Ed. programme. As for as research programmes are concerned, 29 University departments offer Ph.D. programmes, 26 offer M.Phil. programme. The Directorate of Distance Education of the University also offers wide-ranging programmes at the graduate and postgraduate level. The University follows semester system in all the UG and PG programmes offered in the campus. The CBCS and CGPA system is being followed in all the programmes offered on the campus, with a view to providing scope for flexibility and diversity.

The University has 127 affiliated colleges under its ambit, offering undergraduate programmes, of which 18 colleges offer postgraduate programmes and 11 colleges offer MBA and MCA programmes. There are two autonomous colleges under the University, in which One Autonomous College with potential for excellence as identified by the UGC and another, Autonomous College proposed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to develop as Centre for Excellence.

The University has gained recognition as a Centre of academic excellence at the national and international level. The University stood at 150-200 band during in NIRF rankings 2018-19 and has gained an International recognition by figuring in the slot of 451-500 in QS World Rankings for BRICS countries. The QSI-GAUGE has awarded the University with Gold University Rating for 2019-2020. The University with its current CGPA score of 2.85 in the third cycle of accreditation by NAAC with B++ grade in 2016 is preparing to go for fourth cycle with a hope to achieve NAAC ‘A’ grade.

The Atal Incubation Centre, established on the University campus, is the only one among 54 Central and 422 State funded Universities and out of 3658 applicants in the entire country to get the recognition of NITI Aayog, Govt. Of India for setting up of the prestigious Atal Incubation Centre, with a grant-in-aid of Rs.5.5 crore over a period of 5 years. The University has promoted a special purpose vehicle called AIC-SKU Confederation as not for-profit Section-8 companies act to undertake the operations of Atal Incubation Centre and will soon become a hub of innovative start-ups in the State.

Centre for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship & Incubation has been very active in serving the student community with an overall objective to strengthen participants’ capacities to improve the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of their existing skills and supported by APSSCD. Innovation Facilitation Centre supported by AP Innovation Society and Atal Incubation Centre supported by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog.

E-Office has been an effective initiative by the university. The University follows directives of the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh to run it’s offices under E-Office module and is administering paperless office and all the files are being processed in the E-Office effective from 2020.

DigiLocker is a facility offered by the Government of India, where a citizen can get authentic documents/ certificates in digital format from the original issues of these certificates anytime, anywhere without any physical interface with them. This is one of the national priority initiatives towards enhancing the effectiveness of the service delivery to the citizens.

As per the directive of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, the University introduced National Academic Depositary (NAD) scheme with DigiLocker. The DigiLocker facilitates all Universities to onboard NAD platform and issue digital academic awards to students.

LAN & Internet Facility on the university campus is provided with 1- Gigabit (1:1) internet facility since 2009, functioning under National Knowledge Network supported by National Informatics Centre, Hyderabad. Every Department including the Administrative Office, Examination Section, Guest House and Health Centre of the University has been provided with Internet and Local Area Network.

UGC Sponsored Coaching Centres for SC, ST, Minority and OBC Students is a big initiative approved to start coaching schemes for SC, ST, OBC and Minority students. Since the inception of Centres, coaching classes are being conducted successfully for the benefit of SC, ST, OBC and Minority students who are preparing for UGC – NET, various competitive examinations and Entry into Govt. Services, Remedial Classes for communicative skills & personality development. A good number of subject experts are being invited across the state for the benefit of the students. There has been a tremendous response from students and many of them have got placements in private and public sectors.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) functions under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor with the senior faculty of different Departments along with renowned Industrialist, Charted Accountant and District Backward Caste Welfare Officer. The Director is the member Secretary who collects the information through documents and records pertaining to academic developments of the University and prepares a road map to the University for achieving academic and research excellence of all the Departments concerned. The IQAC has been striving to infuse quality both in academic and administrative services. It prepares half yearly reports and submits to the Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor of State Universities. The road map is proposed to ensure improvements in the academic performance in the ensuing meetings of the Committee under the Leadership of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.

Women Studies Centre of the university was established on 23-12-2008 to seek to uncover discrimination against women and to serve for the development and empowerment of women with financial support from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi during the Eleventh Five Year Plan period. The WSC conducts Seminars on Women Empowerment, and by publishing research articles on various aspects related to women.

Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) was established on 1st July, 2008 with the financial support of UGC, New Delhi under 11th Plan and 12th Plan Periods. It has been conducting research on deprived sections and women of the society through specific studies and projects. The Centre also organizes seminars to deliberate upon key issues plaguing the society, especially concerning the exploited sections, and to examine the effectiveness of inclusive policies being implemented.

Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is the Centrally Sponsored State Scheme with 60% Central Contribution and 40% Sate Contribution for the development of infrastructure facilities in Higher Education Institutions. The State Project Director, Andhra Pradesh RUSA has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 20 Crore to Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu in 2016 and released an amount of Rs. 10 Crore during the Academic Year 2019-20. Out of the received grants, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu has developed the Central Computer Facility (Computer Lab) with 200 Desktop Computers, renovated the Botanical Garden with new Net Houses including Campus Beautification Works and construction and installation of 500kWp Captive Solar Power Plant to meet 40% of power requirement of the campus during the Academic Year 2019-20.
